There's always something going
on, we just have trouble finding the time to tell everyone...
keep checking back for more soon.
Track sequencing is finished... the artwork is done...
the mastering is finished... now to duplicate... June Star's fifth
album or so will be released on January 13th, 2008. We're very
proud, and tired, of the is effort. We will have a few copies
on hand at the Dec. 8th show. To celebrate this occasion, we'll
be hitting the road on Jan. 16th to support the disc... tourdates
are available on the tourdates page... The January tour will be
shared with Caleb Stine and the Brakemen! February and March will
see Andrew and Timothy Bracken touring as an acoustic duo.
Tim Bracken may be re-joining June Star full time. Like he ever
really left... but we're excited to have him playing with us and
bringing his own songs to the show...
Has it really been that long since I've updated this thing?
Wow... well June Star has shifted into getting bigger and bigger
shows... and we're not sure why... but we'll take them all the
same... Festival season is in full swing and we're playing some
new ones and some old ones... the Harbor East Festival, Hampden
Fest, and the City Book Festival are all lined up... we are very
happy to play and enjoy the bigger stages. A word on the CD...
it is in mastering (2nd time now) and will be coming out soon...
I type this without sarcasm. Thanks for reading this and listening
to us... and spending money... on us.What a great time to be in June Star... after playing stellar
shows at the 8x10 last month, the Bike Jam at Patterson Park,
and a series of sweet gigs at the Waterfront Hotel, the band is
starting to gain back some momentum and gather some interest.
Andrew's next solo disc is mastered and waiting in line to be
duplicated and will be released very soon... in addition the money
for mastering has been allocated for the next June Star disc,
Cora Belle. To top it off, June Star has been asked to play Artscape.
Rock and roll. Come out and see the band at the next show... the
8x10 on May 31st. Hearts and Stars!
Andrew's song "declare" is being featured on
Neil
Young's Website... Grimm started out with 1499... shot to
171... then to 81 and is currently back down to 159... please
click on that link and make Neil notice him... he's very lonely...
not Neil, but Grimm... maybe Neil. Oh yeah... get your friends
and neighbors to click too... and you should come out to the big
show at the 8x10. That's it.
Jason Butcher has joined June Star. Yay. He is a sweet
person with a positive outlook on life... long live schwabadeedoo.
No one can hardly believe it... but the mixes, for the
most part, are complete for the next June Star disc, Cora
Belle. Now, you might be asking what the next step is...
when is it coming out? Well... we're going to get it mastered
and then send it out to the independent labels for rejection...
after that we'll send it out for duplication and then it'll be
released by our little old lonesomes... all the best
So the Ravens didn't make it... yesterday they lost and
we all felt bad... mustering our courage we went over to the Waterfront
Hotel to play our show... the crowd was one thick drunk Grimmace
colored mob... sad and indifferent. All we could think at the
time was that this show was going to be rough rough rough... but
it turned out that Baltimore rallied behind us and applauded and
cheered... we became the 2nd string Ravens clean up crew... we
stopped the Colts from claiming the "morale" victory...
the best moment was the pole dancing drunk girl showin' us her
moves with Grimm's mic stand... oh my. She was removed... in more
ways than one... thanks as always to Tim Heaney for coming out
and taking some pics... he's true snap shot kind of a guy! Some
day we'll finish that album Tim, I promise.
Yes, 2007 has slipped in behind the door and made itself
known... the sips of champagne and revelry were its doorbell;
the welcome knell that says, "guess what? you're ready for
something new." And something creative is brewing beneath
that surface of skin and bone... the heart and brain are starting
to talk again, man it's been so long since they've even been in
the same room. June Star will be showing up as usual... playing
songs, better than the average song, and recording some new material.
Perhaps those dusty sound files will emerge as an album... we
listened to some old mixes yesterday and must say that the disc
is mighty fine. Here's to you and we'll see you soon.
Thank you Jay Filippone! Jay played his final show with
June Star last night at the AS220 in Providence RI. It was an
incredibly under attended show... but Jay played like there were
ten people there... a true showman. Jay leaves June Star after
two years of the "off and on" dedication it takes to
muscle through guitar parts he learned the night before. He truly
will be missed... you can catch Jay with his own band
the Beltways.
Thanks to Shane Poteete for creating this new website...
there will be a few minor tweaks and changes... but at least FTP
access has been granted for now! June Star will be playing many
shows coming up... with final touches going on in the studio...
a new disc is really on the horizon. In the two years it took
to get the project completed, Andrew has released two solo discs
and written enough material for another June Star disc. A big
thank you to all the people who have drifted into our lives.
Andrew is tying the knot with his lovely bride to be, Lisa
Marie Ferretto on September 23, 2006. It will be a beautiful occasion
and a great excuse to have a few too many drinks. June Star returned to the hallowed halls of Mum's for the
first time in awhile. We love Mum's and we have a special place
in our heart for Brian Whitcomb, the most affable bartender sound
guy in the world. After a brief set-up and sound check Burr Settles
was hooked up to his acoustic guitar and ready to go... Burr is
a great guy from Wisconsin. He was a partner with Matt Hopper
in creating February Album Writing Month... his set reflected
thoughtful acoustic ideas... a real talent.
June Star took the stage and launched into "New Jordan." As of late the band has been revisiting some older material and working on new stuff as well... the set was pretty much the same fare as the past three gigs... but there was some really great energy... the rest of the set... New Jordan, Telegraph, Belly, Giants, Tweeter and the Monkey Man, Sugarbird, Home, Pope of Mexico, Baltimore, and Waiting for My Man. All had a great time and a special shout out goes to Pete Baker for playing with an abscessed tooth... Coedine and Evil make a great combination.
Alec Gross and the districts played next... good band with a solid guitar player... I think they opened with some sort of Boston, foreigner instrumental... second gig with those guys and it was a great time... thanks to all who came out... see you again!
Hello, New York City was a great time!!! After a late start we burned up the turnpike and pulled up to the Lakeside Lounge. You know, NYC is an incredible town. There is more going on in a city block than all of Maryland.
Load in was good and we found a prime spot for the van. Then it was off to the wonderful world of revising my Full Metal Jacket essay. The Lakeside Lounge is great place! Steve Keane's art hangs on the walls, the jukebox plays the best standard garage and western tunes, and the barstaff are the best.
Although we didn't draw a huge crowd, about 5 people checked us out. 2 bought a disc! When we were packing up two guys showed up... Josh and Jeff. Jeff had heard June Star on the radio out in Seattle WA, so since he was in town he wanted to check us out but alas he was too late... but perhaps next time...
We met Mary Lee from Mary Lee's Corvette!! She was super nice!
After all of that... we loaded out and drove on back to Baltimore.
